If you are lazy (like me) and don't want to create/download a whole new theme that makes the container of the forum condensed, simply go to your theme that (automatically) stretched wide. Go to Advanced Mode in the global.css section and adjust the following:

Code:
#container {
background: #fff;
width: 50%;
color: #000000;
border: 1px solid #000;
border-top: 0;
margin: auto auto;    text-align: left;

Change the width to 50%, and you've got a neat, condensed looking forum. However, this may look odd on small computer screens and mobil devices. Enjoy!

It would be better to set a fixed width in pixels, (like this theme does) 940px works well for the vast majority of users.

50% on a 1024 x 768 resolution, which about 40-60% of internet users are still on, would be tiny and ruin the layout.

I use a .gif in the header. I found using both methods works very well for me. I use my editor to resize (ex. 72%) then I test. If I like it, I calculate the width in pixels and edit the container. I use a portal and this works for me.
